Summer 2022 was full of recognition for our excellent women scientists at the University of Vienna with many prizes and awards.

WoBio is a growing network of excellent women scientists at the University of Vienna. It is empowering and validating to see many of our members recognized for their outstanding work. Here is a quick summary of this year's prizes so far:

Prof Christa Schleper won this year's prestigious Wittgenstein Award for her work in microbiology. This 1.5 million Euro "Austro Nobel Prize" recognizes excellent scholars who have made ground-making contributions to their field.

Dr Petra Sumasgutner was awarded a 1.2 million Euro START grant for her work on feeding strategies in owls and ravens and how they are affected by humans. She'll use cutting edge technologies in her work.

Dr Bea Maas received a teaching award for her outstanding ability to teach and engage students at the University of Vienna. Bea also recently won a prestigious Elise Richter fellowship for her work on olive agroforestry.

Last but not least, Dr Nicole Grunstra was awarded the University of Vienna's Gertrud Pleskot Young Investigator Award for her research on cranial and pelvic morphology and the evolution of human childbirth.

Congratulations to all!
