Guest Speakers

1st Talk: The Citation Gap: Why Great Science by Women Gets Less Recognition

Abstract:

Ever wondered why groundbreaking research by women in science sometimes gets less recognition? In this talk we'll dive into the fascinating world of scientific citations, uncovering the hidden reasons behind the gender gap. We'll explore how collaboration styles and even the timing of research breakthroughs can impact how science values a researcher's work. Join us to unveil the secrets of the "first-mover advantage" and discover how we can create a more level playing field for women in STEM fields.

2nd Talk: Equality in Science — Are we there yet?

Abstract:

In the past decades, many developments led to an improvement of equality in science. However, we are still encountering manifold challenges and structural problems such as the leaky pipeline, gender award gap and gender care gap. In this talk, the most prominent hurdles for women in the STEM field will be discussed. We will not only discuss issues but also potential solutions to unravel how everyone of us can contribute to move faster towards an equal and more diverse scientific environment.
